Mallory Mead is a 23 year old marathon swimmer with a swimming career that spans 18 years, including 11 years of open water swimming. In July 2004 Mead placed 4th overall in the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, a 28.5 miles swim around Manhattan Island in New York City. From 2004-2008 she swam collegiately for the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers where she specialized in middle-distance and sprint freestyle. In 2007 she placed 2nd overall and was the fastest female in the Boston Light Swim, an 8 mile swim in the Boston Harbor. In July 2008, she swam the English Channel in 10 hours, 34 minutes, making her the Channel Swimming Association’s Fastest American as well as the Fastest Female for 2008. In 2009, Mallory was offered a sponsorship through the Endurance Trust and an opportunity to raise money for two great children's charities, Riley Hospital for Children and the PLGA Foundation.
